Daniel Kinahan, who is widely alleged to be the leader of a major Irish organised crime group, has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates. The arrest was carried out by Dubai Police after authorities in Ireland issued a warrant linked to serious organised crime offences.
According to An Garda Síochána, the arrest follows close coordination between Irish and UAE authorities. Officials confirmed that the action was taken under an existing extradition agreement between both countries, allowing suspects accused of serious crimes to be detained and potentially transferred for legal proceedings.
Dubai Police stated that the arrest took place after they received a detailed judicial file from Irish authorities. This file reportedly outlined Kinahan’s alleged involvement in an international criminal network. Following a review of the evidence, prosecutors in Dubai issued an arrest warrant. Specialised teams then carried out surveillance and search operations, leading to Kinahan’s capture within 48 hours.
Irish police described the arrest as a significant step in tackling transnational organised crime. They emphasized that law enforcement agencies are committed to pursuing individuals involved in serious criminal activities, regardless of where they are located. Officials also highlighted the importance of international cooperation in dealing with complex global crime networks.
Kinahan, originally from Dublin and currently based in the UAE, has previously denied any involvement in criminal activities and has stated that he has no criminal convictions. However, authorities in Ireland have continued investigations into his alleged role in organised crime for several years.
Apart from these allegations, Kinahan is also known as the founder of MTK Global, a boxing management firm that once represented several high-profile fighters, including Tyson Fury and Billy Joe Saunders. His association with boxing had previously sparked controversy, especially after his involvement in arranging major fights drew public criticism.
Authorities in Ireland have confirmed that the legal process is now in the hands of UAE officials. Further steps, including possible extradition to Ireland, will depend on legal proceedings in the UAE. The case continues to develop as both countries work together on the matter.
