In Ghatkesar, Hyderabad, a cow protection activist known as Sonu Singh, or Prashant, suffered severe injuries due to a shooting on Wednesday evening. This activist, well-known for campaigning against illegal cattle trade, was reportedly lured by the attackers, who promised information about cow transportation. Around 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm, as he arrived at the designated spot, one of the assailants opened fire, gravely injuring him. Responding promptly, police identified and arrested the suspects. He is now receiving critical care at a local hospital, with efforts focused on stabilizing his condition.
The incident has caused significant outrage, notably among local BJP leaders who visited the hospital to show their support. Telangana BJP chief N. Ramchander Rao accused an AIMIM worker of being behind the assault, stating that one bullet has lodged in Prashant’s liver, rendering him in severe condition. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy has condemned the incident as a “heinous act,” calling for urgent police action against the perpetrators who have targeted the gau rakshak. BJP leaders have warned of increased protests unless stricter measures are taken against unlawful cattle transport and violence towards such activists.
Law enforcement has confirmed that the gau rakshak was deceived into a targeted attack, drawing attention to the perilous situation faced by individuals working to curb illegal cattle movement. With the attackers now in custody, an intensive investigation is underway to ascertain whether this assault was premeditated and if it was triggered by his activism. Senior police officials have assured the public that they are diligent in ensuring the safety of those involved in cow protection efforts.
This attack has rekindled debates surrounding the safeguarding of gau rakshaks and enforcing laws against illegal cattle transport in Telangana. BJP leaders have highlighted the state government's duty in upholding law and order, cautioning that any failure to protect gau rakshaks could lead to civil unrest. The nationwide response to this assault underscores the urgent need for robust actions against individuals threatening activists committed to upholding cow protection legislation. Investigations into the attacker’s motives are ongoing, with officials committed to delivering swift justice.
The shooting of the gau rakshak in Ghatkesar has raised serious political and public concerns, illustrating the dangers faced by those enforcing cow protection laws. With suspects apprehended and inquiries underway, authorities are prioritizing strategies to avoid future incidents. The attack not only highlights the vulnerabilities of activists but also emphasizes the need for effective enforcement of cattle transport regulations, as BJP leaders call for decisive actions. Public support for the gau rakshak remains strong, reinforcing the significance of protecting those dedicated to cow safeguarding efforts.
