The ongoing Canada Post strike is causing disruptions for voters in two local by-elections, leaving residents without mailed voter information. LaSalle and Windsor’s Ward 2 residents will need to take alternative steps to access their voter details.
In LaSalle, voters are required to pick up their voter information letter, which includes a PIN to vote online, at the LaSalle Civic Centre starting October 8, 2025. A valid government-issued ID is necessary to collect the letter. Residents can also pick up letters for other eligible voters in the same household.
Online voting in LaSalle will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, and will remain open 24 hours a day until Monday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m. Voters who cannot collect their letter in person are advised to contact the Voter Help Centre at 519-969-7770, ext. 1263 or 1-833-946-3061 for assistance.
In Windsor’s Ward 2, the by-election is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Residents will not receive voter notification cards in the mail, but they can still vote at any of the seven polling locations in the ward. Advance voting is scheduled for Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18, at Campbell Baptist Church.
Officials emphasize that despite the strike, all eligible voters retain the right to vote, either in person or online where applicable. Voters are encouraged to plan ahead and use available resources to ensure they can participate in the elections.
This disruption highlights the broader impact of Canada Post’s labour strike on essential civic services, including the delivery of election materials. Residents are urged to check official municipal sources for the most current information on voting locations and procedures.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and confirm that all voters will have access to election materials and polling options despite mail delivery interruptions caused by the strike.
