A 29-year-old man was critically injured, sustaining burns to roughly 50% of his body in a suspected liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) explosion at a home in Taman Baiduri, Kuala Ina, Alor Gajah, on Wednesday morning.

The incident is thought to have been triggered by a gas leak, which allowed LPG to build up within the house before igniting, resulting in a powerful explosion in the kitchen.

According to the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), they received an emergency call at around 10:26 am, after which a team from the Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the location.

Upon their arrival, firefighters discovered the tenant seriously injured as a result of the explosion. The Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) quickly administered first aid before transferring the injured man to the Ministry of Health (MOH) team.

The victim was subsequently taken to Tampin Hospital for advanced medical care due to the severity of his burns.

Reports indicate that the man had recently returned from Pahang and had detected a potential gas leak in the house. While inspecting the LPG cylinder, an explosion occurred unexpectedly.

The explosion led to significant damage to the house, affecting the roof, doors, windows, ceiling, and electrical systems.

Fire and rescue officials are conducting safety inspections to prevent any further risks of gas leaks. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the precise cause of the incident.

Initial findings point to accumulated LPG gas as the likely cause of the explosion, although authorities are exploring other potential causes as investigations proceed.
